I FOUND the password to my tumblr and all is well again!!!!!!! it has been quite a while since i last posted on this bad boy, so i have a lot of topics to cover. I have been brainstorming the topics to this blog because there is no way I could possibly right this without having organized my thoughts because there are so many things that have happened recently. we will start with chapter one.
Basketball:
I have been on the University of Belgrano basketball team for the last 2 months or so now. Made very close friends with all the players, Argentine, American and French. All fun guys who like to go out and are always up for fun. We have now had 4 games, and we are 1-3, but don’t let the record fool you, we got off to a rough start playing the most physical team i have ever played in my entire life and we deserved to lose that game. As for the 2 games after that, we should have won both of them, being up by 15 the second game and then losing in the last 3 minutes. And then the third game being down by 15 points and going up by 2 points in the closing minutes and then losing yet again. We had a few meltdowns, but in the end we came out game 4 and played a strong game. But in order to win it, we had to go through a little mid-game scuffle. One of the most fun experiences in a live game situation i have ever had. I was at the left wing and Trevor, our starting 3, cut to the low block and i fed him the ball in the post, as he reached for the ball, his defender wrapped both arms around him and dragged him down to the floor out of frustration. Trevor threw his leg off of him and tried to stand up, as one of the other teammatese threw him to the floor again. I ran in and shoved the guy that pushed Trevor for the second time, and then i got shoved, this is where steve came in and started shoving and then everyone was in someones face. It was like the scene of Semi-Pro when will ferrell says, “Somebody hit somebody!!!” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhy-w4o0P70 (for those certain old people that read this blog, highlight the link that i just posted and copy and paste it to the URL link and watch the youtube video that it leads too). As that whole melee came to an end, we got 4 free throws out of it. Trevor shot his two. And then i shot the technical free throws in front of the opposing teams bench, as they all screamed at me in vulgar Spanish, it made me laugh and realize how awesome of an experience it was for me to be in a foreign country playing basketball for a college team in a crazy environment. When i am back home and i am surrounded with all my friends who all play basketball and are good shooters, i am a mediocre shooter at best. But when put into a position where a team relies on me to be a scorer, and puts confidence in me to shoot and score, it makes me a much better shooter, its bizarre, we’ll see if it carries over to back home. Anyway, this whole tangent leads into me being the teams designated technical foul free throw shooter. I gathered my thoughts and frustrations at the free throw line, and calmly sunk the first one, walking back to the three point line and looking at that whole teams bench and throwing up a little American sign the call the middle finger up, just to stir the pot a little bit more. And then they started yelling a little bit louder, and luckily i made he second one and just laughed all the way back to the bench as we went on to win the game. Great game. Great day. First game i started off scoring 4 points, and since then i have been scoring 15-19 a game, so i am not only having a great time, but playing well too.
Chapter 2:
As much as i love Buenos Aires, it is great to get out of the city for a nice weekend. I went to the northeast province of Argentina, called Córdoba. Seeing that Buenos Aires has 14 million people in its province and there are only 40 million people in all of Argentina, every other province is a mere fraction in population. So Córdoba was a beautiful city with a great mix of old buildings and modern buildings and beautiful churches. We did not know that we were going to go to Córdoba until 4 hours of getting to the Retiro bus station to purchase the tickets. We got on the bus and took the 10 hour bus with my allergies being at probably one of the worst stages they have ever been. Not only could i not breathe, but i could not sniffle either because i had air stuck in my head and my ears would pop every time i sniffled. Needless to say, it was a painful 10 hours. We arrived in Córdoba at 11 the next morning, and walked around until we found the hostel that could fit 6 people, it was a really big hostel and had a 6 person room, which was perfect for us. When we got off the bus, it was hot and i was uncomfertable because my face was super itchy, so i realized it was time for a change. I cut off all of my facial hair except for my mustache, it looked pretty gross. Though funny and ridiculous, i left it on to go to Oktoberfest, i felt that i would blend in with the German culture a little bit more. After getting off a 10 hour bus we got on another 2 hour bus to a small town called Carlos Paz with a pretty lake and hung out by the “beach” for a few hours, skipping rocks and getting color. Overall, was a pretty productive day. The next morning, we bought breakfast ingredients to make at the BEAUTIFUL HOSTEL KITCHEN. Marble counter tops, big cutting boards, a really nice oven/stove top and unlimited plates and silver wear. Made some yummy breakfast sandwiches to start off the day, and then back on the bus for another 2 hours to Oktoberfest!!!! It is in a small city called Belgrano (different than my school). For those who don’t know, Oktoberfest is a fair that is German themed (I know, I know), and it celebrates German culture and all the different kinds of beer in the neighboring countries and what not. So i bought a cool mug and a beer strap to hold my mug. The set up was 30 pesos in order to get into the “jardin de cerveza” Beer Garden, and once you are in you can fill up your beer and pay as you go, all i drank was duper dark beer, like barley wine and the alcohol content was 10.5%, where as a normal beer is 5%. But i only got 4 or so beers because i didn’t want to get too drunk seeing as i was going to be making dinner for 6 people that same night. The “asado” BBQ that night was probably the highlight of my trip. I went to the store, bought thin boneless steak, seasoning, green and red peppers, eggplant, pinapple, tomatoes, onions and we prepped everything for like 2 hours. Heat up the charcoal and BBQ’ed up alllllll that goodness and and a freaking FEAST, it was probably one of my favorite meals in all of Argentina just because when i was done eating it, i didn’t feel that i was going to die of a heart attack because of so much oil or fattening stuff, because all we ate was thin steak and vegetables. Nothing fatty, nothing unhealthy. The weather when we were there was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. 75 Degrees and nothing but blue skies, and now the rest of the kids in the house are going to Oktoberfest this weekend, and it is all rainy and depressing, SUCKS for them. ahahah. Overall, great weekend, and good company, of only 5 other kids from the house, which is a small group compared to normally traveling with 15 other kids.
Chapter 3
So being the grandpa of the group, being in Argentina for one month longer than most of the kids here, i have kind of been slowing down on going out because of me being tired, and because of me spending unnecessary amounts of money on alcohol and cover charges. Not to mention, I just turned 20 years old, and i am already burnt out of going out to clubs and bars, just in case you didn’t know, 21 is the legal drinking age, sooooo there is something wrong with that statement. Anyway, its nice just staying in and watching a movie, drink a beer or two and relax. While i have been doing this, i have been starting to get more involved with reading about whats going on in the world today, just because i feel like living in another country interests me so much into what is going on in Argentina, that every country has the same kind of issues going on and it is all about the politics and economy and protests, all for the same reasons in completely different parts of the world. It is funny, that though so many countries go through the same exact problems with its governments, you would think that there would be a formula to solve the problem, but unfortunately the world doesn’t like combining its brain power for the greater good. So now when i am at home, i spend about an hour reading up on whats going on around the world. I know, i am deep.
Chapter 4:
SOOOOOO, one of my closest friends in the house, Kelsey, is the girl version of me…she loves cracking jokes, she is rarely serious, she NEVER gets offended, and likes to be treated like a boy, i kid you not, decided that she wants to stay here in Argentina for another semester, so i am going to start looking into apartments to live here. They are not cheap, but they aren’t expensive either, its about 500-600 dollars to live in an apartment to share with someone, in palermo/belgrano/reccoleta. The three nicer neighborhoods of Buenos Aires. As well as all that going on, i am also getting mentally prepared to see Machu Pichu, which is probably one of the coolest experiences i will ever experience in my entire life. We are going to the back side of the mountains, the ruins are 500 years old, and we are going on a 4 day guided hike with 10 other kids.
Chapter 5:
I am starting to finally miss my family and friends and just being able to drive from point a to point b at my own liking without thinking, hmmm, what bus/cab/train/subway to i need to take, and how long am i going to have to wait for it? It comes with the territory of living in a HUGE city, but it does get very frustrating. Yesterday, i skyped with one of my good friends from university of arizona, benji, and we were talking a lot about basketball, and i don’t have anyone here to talk basketball with and it was a great talk because i missed i hadn’t had one in such a long time. So i am definitely going to be back in Arizona some time late november early december to visit all of my good buddies. I absolutely love all of my great friends i have met in Buenos Aires. Argentine, or American, i am going to be close with a lot of them for life, i know this, and i am having a great time with all of them too, but if all of my close friends from home were here, like the core 4 (alex, max, greg) were here or xander, or my basketball group from arizona, i know they would have SOOOOOOOOO much fun here because it is the exact kind of life style that they would want to live at school, but its not available for them. I miss my friends and can’t wait to get back to the month and a half of ‘MERICAN activities, and small house parties instead of going to bars and clubs.
i feel like i have touched on pretty much every single topic. I hope this got you up to date with where i am at. Love everyone who read this and then some….see you next time, in like 3 weeks, ahaha

to all of my friends that watched, summer heights high, please tell me that dick looks exactly like the dick that was jonah’s tagging sign….dick-tation
